SXSW ASSHOLE OF THE WEEK: KIM FROM FADER FORT

“The Biggest Asshole of the Week” goes to Kim from Fader Fort. My friends and I all RSVP’d to get into Fader Fort, we waited in line to get in, we all got our wrist bands except for one friend. We tried to explain on her behalf that she truly did RSVP and they lost it, one of the employees was trying to help us when Kim walked up to us and demanded we keep moving. So we walked out of line and asked him to get us a wrist band which he denied us. Since RSVP’s allowed a plus one we asked that we use our plus one on her behalf and he said they didn’t allow plus ones. Then I started asking people in line if she could use someones plus one, he sent security over to get me out. At this point I called him an asshole and told him we had waited in line and did everything we were supposed to do to get in. He smirked and told me to leave. I walked away and smoked a cigarette then got up and took a photo of him. At this point he ran up to me and towered over me asking if I’d like to settle this right now, I said yes, it’ll be settled when we get a wrist band. He replied, “no it’ll be settled if I hurt you.” The police then arrived and I excited the area. He yelled out to me, “You’re lucky I don’t hurt you.”

A little while later I watched as three black women walked up to him and asked him if there was anyway they could get in without having RSVPing. He immediately pulled out three wrist bands and sent them on their way. I do not understand why LEVI’s and FADER employ such a brute and feel we should be compensated. Eventually after he left the area we got her a wrist band… but what an obnoxious way to get into a place full of people.

SXSW PRE PARTY: ORGANIC FOOD, BEACH FOSSILS, THEE OH SEES AND OF COURSE, LOTS OF BOOZE…

This year we started out our SXSW adventure with an organic home cooked meal courtesy of The Eastside Cafe on Manor Road.  The Cafe grows a lot of the organic veggies they serve in a garden behind the restaurant space and gets their eggs from the hen house out back as well.  This was by far the most civilized event of the week.  After  stuffing our faces with healthy eats we headed out to begin our pre festival partying.

We made our way to the 21st Co Op, an awesome labyrinth of a college housing complex and to House of Guys, a house venue across the street to see Thee Oh Sees and Beach Fossils. Sans this guy wearing a major “VICE DON’T” zebra suit, both parties were pretty awesome…

SXSW VOLUME ONE

To make it easy on readers we decided to choose a different format this year. We have posted all the bands we have seen in alphabetical order according to bands names. We first discuss what made us decide to check out the band in question and then talk briefly about how they lived up to the hype and our expectations. As expected, we had a great time in Austin and feel even more confidant getting around the city and enjoying it like a local. Austin remains one of our favorite places to visit and SXSW remains the premier music festival in the country. Thanks SXSW for a wonderful time and for making minorprogression a part of your celebration of music and music culture.

SXSW VOLUME TWO

Frightened Rabbit – Frightened Rabbit play indie rock in an anthemic, theatrical style that sounds way too much like U2 to be taken seriously.  This is not to say that Frightened Rabbit plan to be the next U2.  They write songs that are far more earnest and believable then the aforementioned band and are often less bombastic in their production but even with these facts accounted for it’s hard not to roll your eyes when you see them play.  Power chords strummed as if they were holy law and expressions so serious that you would think we were watching a birth, Frightened Rabbit take themselves very seriously.  Every major montage ever known to man may come to mind, or you might just stand there striking poses and pretending to work out.  Whatever this music makes you do, it will not make you enjoy yourselves.  Unless you are in the same camp as the limousine riding band that passed us by on Friday night, in which case you love U2 and sing it loudly and unashamedly with the windows down as you drive around at night.  In this case we admire your honesty but are officially freaked out.

Strangers Family Band – The Strangers Family Band do not use computers. They are not the next Animal Collective nor a band biting off their style.  This is more than we can say for a lot of other bands gracing the music scene this year.  Strangers Family Band resurrect 70s style rock and roll and put on a fun and engaging show.  Super psychedelic and full of expert musicianship these guys came as a breath of fresh air into a festival filled with computerized band mates.

BLOK: sooo fucking high and cliche??

BLOCK: How would you describe three white kids rapping in their PJ’s to a bunch of trust fund kids high as balls on cocaine?? Umm besides the really embarrassing make up smearing their faces I’d say these three kids have a knack for taking something Gravy Train!!!! did years ago, putting it to dub beats and spitting lyrics a wee bit faster…

It was enjoyable, there’s definitely some talent here, but they need to pull some loose strings together before I will throw some serious cred their way. Anyway, they’re gonna get a lot of hype and I’m sure midwest kids will swoon but I doubt they’ll get much cred in any major city. OC at its finest???? Thank god I’m getting outta southern california is all I thought!!

TAYISHA BUSAY about to drop new EP SHOCK-WOO!

Recently I got word that TAYISHA BUSAY is releasing her new EP SHOCK-WOO! next month. You’ll be able to get it through iTunes. Anyway, for those of you that don’t know, TAYISHA BUSAY is an electronic dance band based in Brooklyn, NYC, they’ve been know to roll around in piles of glitter, cuddle their keyboards, and grind up on their synthesizers while performing onstage. I’ve seen them a few times and witnessed such luscious behavior.

Light Asylum Played Los Angeles

The other night a few friends of mine and myself ventured out to see Light Asylum play in Los Angeles. I’ve seen Bruno and Shannon play in other incarnations with other bands in the past and true to form the two continue to evolve like a fine wine. As you can see through my somewhat shakey video footage, the two really know how to make a sound and perform. They’re touring all over the place and I’ll be sure to do my best to let you know where and when they’re popping up as details leak.

Lady Gaga’s Telephone Video Featuring Beyonce

Before now I always imagined Beyonce as a dyke but now that she’s officially starred in a “coming out” video we don’t have to imagine for much longer. My friend who is an assistant to an assistant of Beyonces also leaked to me that her and Jay Z start every day with a threesome. Yep. It’s true. Until now Alicia Keys has been the usual snack of choice for Beyonce. Girl liked to stick her face into her ass and lick as Alicia puckered up her hole. Not satisfied, Beyonce would shrill, “Jay Z get yo big dick in me!!” So it’s very apparent that Alicia got dumped for Gaga. Which is like whatever.

SPOILER ALERT: Part two to the Telephone video is their official sex tape.
