Wynne Renz “made love, warm inside the armpit of a Bird-like mastodon”

Today was a great day. I went to Amoeba where I happily realized The Gossip will perform tomorrow at 6pm in Hollywood for free *I might add* and it will be crowded so get their early! I picked up two of The Incredible String Band’s albums and one Pearls Before Swine album then headed home to indulge. The psych rock mixed with the joint I inhaled really got me feeling introspective so I headed over to Skylight Books to grab a few new books of poetry. Their shelves are jammed packed with great reading material. Truly the best neighborhood bookstore. I picked up “Nobody Loves Nobody” by Wynne Renz, “Astral Dick” by Toylit and “Revolutionary Letters” by Diane di Prima. From there, I headed to Best fish Taco in Ensenada and got taco’s whilst watching the cutest gay couple ever stuff their precious young faces with fishy Mexican goodness. Feeling 100% jealous I headed home and opened up “Nobody Loves Nobody”. I bought the book on a whim. When I skimmed the book the line “This one time at camp / we stood over kyle’s body / and watched him die” caught my attention and made me wanna buy the book. Having never heard of Wynne Renz I was expecting to be mildly entertained and a bit disappointed that I spent ten bucks on an unsure thing when I could have bought Justin Chin’s “Bite Hard” – a book my shelves are sorely lacking! However, as luck would have it, I sat down, put on Pearls Before Swine “The Wizard of Is” and opened up “Nobody Loves Nobody” and continued reading one poem after another until I sadly realized I had gobbled up every line in one lovely sitting. Enough of me. Check out a few of my favorite poems: Continue reading
