AUNT DRACULA:INTERVIEW AND GIVE-AWAYS

I’ve been watching Aunt Dracula rise for the past few months and I’ve been quickly falling in love, their sound is influenced by Animal Collective, horror, shoegazing bands like My Bloody Valentine… pretty much everything whimsical and swirly, they push their sound and lyrics into odd wastelands that only an ageless vampire that has grown tired of devouring humans could create… whenever his voice hits the high notes (blushes) I feel like I’m collapsing inside, like I’m able to just melt into the chaotic beautiful energy he has mastered. As summer encroaches upon us I highly recommend adding this album to your stack of “must brings” for the road trips you take with your friends. Until then, toke up and just wait for the frost to recede, and thank Republicans for global warming cause it may happen quicker than we expect. Anyway, I had a chance to chat with Scott Daly of Aunt Dracula and he sent me a bunch of personal information as well as a stack of their new album “Face Peel”. If you would like one just email me your mailing address and I’ll send you one: stephenjboyer@gmail.com …the first 3 people get one, everyone else needs to go to the record store. There are some downloads after the interview too. Continue reading

Jesus 4 Life!(house)!!!

I am not a very religious person.  Other than a brief period of time in my early teens when my parents decided to send me to Hebrew School (two years past my bar mitzvah age and at a synagogue that met at an orange county church) I have lived a life mostly void of attending religious services unless they involve weddings or funerals. For the most part I am thankful for this, never being forced to participate in group spiritual activities that I didn’t fully believe in, though every once in a while I come across something so bizarre and overwhelming that I wish I had a little bit more Bible in me. While I’ve yet to go to the Holy Land by means of milking my Birthright trip or the amusement park/Jesus death reenactment/special effects party that is Trinity Broadcasting’s Holy Land Experience, I did grow up near The Chrystal Cathedral in Orange County which is closer to Disney does Jesus than anyone could ever wish. (Except for this guy.) I saw the animals poop on stage while looking up flying angels dresses in their “The Glory of Christmas” pageant, I witnessed lasers and earthquakes bring Jesus back to life in their bloated passion festival “The Glory of Easter” I’ve seen their Moses statue with a bush that is always actually on fire and I’ve watched as minivans packed with blond children downed their In-N-Out burgers while listening to the sermons within from the drive in sermon section of the parking lot.

All of this still couldn’t prepare me for this Lifehouse‘s “Everything” video though. The first time I saw it I felt so awkward I didn’t know what to do with myself.  What is even weirder is that it seems the tween/teen/youth groups of churches all over the country have apparently adopted acting this skit out into their church activities, so now there are a ton of other versions of this exact same thing all over Youtube. None I have found are as good as this one though…

Oh sinners! Watch and learn!
WARNING: This clip supposedly has made many grown men cry…

THE MAE SHI: TOUR DATES

So I’m really really excited to announce that minorprogression will be attending South By Southwest in Austin this year! We got press passes so expect lots of coverage before, after and during the music festival (March 18th-22nd). To further amplify the excitement, I’d also like to state that I am incredibly stoked to see The Mae Shi on Tuesday in Oakland and again at the SXSW festival. If you are unfamiliar with The Mae Shi, then you got some learning to do and if you are familiar with them, then I really hope to see your gleaming face at one of their shows.

WHERE IS MY MIND: THE HAVE MERCYS

Growing up in Southern California I was blessed with year round sunshine, I pretty much road my bicycle every day down the board walk, head phones on to tune out the bro’s and bra’s ruining an otherwise picture-esq landscape… why am I on this tangent???? oh yeah, so The Have Mercys totally bring me back to that place: I’m 13, it’s 1997, I have my head phones on, I’m pedaling really fast down the beach board walk to a record shop with Sonic Youth or The Pixies or The Breeders or Belly or Dinosaur Jr. blasting into my ears. I’m singing along. The sun is setting; scattering variations of pinks, reds, blues, violets, orange across the sky. The world is about to go to war, to start over heating, ultimately it’s about to completely fall apart but I don’t really care.

THROBBING: THROBBING GRISTLE REUNION TOUR?????????

Okay, I’ve been seeing some rumors drifting through cyberspace. They better be true cause I want discipline!!

Without discipline, I feel lost and unsure of my fantasies. When I am being disciplined I feel pain and pain leads to pleasure.

Lily Allen: The Fear Video

The Fear video

I love this song and this video, I’m sick of the rain, I haven’t been out of bed in days. This long bout of isolation has also led me to believe I love this video:

Now, get me a latte. That’s all.

Wait. Actually, come back here, download this song too:

ODE: TO HIP HOP AND NEW BEGINNINGS

Minor Progression › Edit Post — WordPress

Today is a big day in American history. We finally get rid of George Bush!!! Hopefully Obama will be all he claims to be, but if he isn’t well I really doubt he can make anything worse.  But it is nice to fantasize about a new world.  Anyway, somehow I stumbled into Ode‘s hip hop and I enjoyed it. He agreed to an interview and I figured since we don’t post that much hip hop on here we should feature Ode today as a nod today the new president elect! We are hopeful! Continue reading
