The queer joy of MKNG FRNDZ

Occasionally there are bands that aside from being good musicians, also give the innate feeling that they are awesome people. I would say that I speculate MKNG FRNDZ to be one of those bands, but I have to confess that I know Daniel pretty well and he’s one of the most spectacularly wonderful people I know. Seriously, this guy is so great I had to preface his visit to the bay area last winter with the words ‘You’ll all like Daniel… but really, everybody likes Daniel.’ Daniel is the ball of energy with contagious laughter that you notice across the room and wish would come entertain you. Daniel is the cool kid who sat at your lunch table one day and invited you to a party that your parents wouldn’t let you go to. Continue reading

This Weekend In Beautiful Bed-Sty Brooklyn: More Dance and Performance Bliss from the folks at AUNTS!!!!

As I have posted before, and will undoubtedly post again, AUNTS are pretty much my favorite performance and dance art based assembly in New York City. I have yet to be let down by an event that they are behind and will continue excitedly to go to their happenings whenever they arise. This weekend we are rolling into has a four day long AUNTS extravaganza, that already started this evening and continues through Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Friday night the festivities even end with a dance party. Be forewarned however, if there is any sort of dance competition that ends up going down, you will loose and loose badly. As things usually are, admission is free if you bring something for the free boutique(clothes, books, knickknacks, drugs) or something for the free bar. I like to bring something for both.

Long preview for Watchmen; a movie that probably won’t be that good

What do you think of when you think of Sin City? Was it good? Was it bad? Was it as good as the comic? I’m not really sure because I never read it or saw the film, but Watchmen (comic also by acclaimed writer Alan Moore), is the next highly produced film to donate millions of dollars to the ‘make this questionably great writer rich’ foundation. Also ranking up there in film history was the extremely preachy V for Vendetta which apparently a lot of people liked, but I found completely predictable and filled with annoying prose from the protagonist that had me angry every time I heard a British accent for months.

TAINted Love : In which The Decemberists trade their image for silhouettes and win!

I know what you’re thinking and I don’t want to hear it. At least not right now. I am fully aware of how pompous and routine you think The Decemberists are and though I will easily admit that I don’t listen to them much myself as I used to, and I realize they aren’t as awesome as The Tiger Lillies, I still haven’t given up on them for possible greatness to come.

I DREAMT UNDER WATER: SUPER UNDER RATED FRENCH FILM

Netflix finally delivered I Dreamt Under Water, directed by Hormoz. The film is a drastically under rated bisexually erotic surrealistic dramatic 90′s period piece starring the very dreamy Hubert Benhamdine as the aspiring musician and party kid Antonin, he watches his friend/band mate die of a heroin overdose. The unfortunate event is the catalyst for Antonin’s sexy dive into prostitution and casual sexual encounters with gross older men. Antonin continues searching and experimenting with possible lovers until he meets Juliette played by the beautiful and talented Caroline Ducey The fabulous Christine Boisson also stars in the film as Antonin’s mom struggling with identity issues; identity issues are the main theme of the movie. REALLY FUCKING C000L!! COOL THING: BEST NEW GAY FICTION

The release of the new fiction anthology COOL THING: BEST NEW GAY FICTION is exciting on so many levels, a very early edition of a novel I am working on makes a debut public appearance in the book and I like all the work that other authors opted to display, so I’m allowing myself to freak out in my room and listen to Dinosaur L “Go Bang!” and be self indulgent, celebrate: Continue reading

Let The Right One In-Adolecence, Outsiders and Vampires, Oh My!(a non review)

I don’t usually walk away from movies disoriented and/or speechless, however after viewing Swedish director Tomas Alfredson‘s new film “Let The Right One In” the other night, I walked for a good six or seven minutes in the wrong direction before I even realized what I was doing. Continue reading
