All hail Mythical Beast! They are a three piece that formed in Kansas City, right now they are sweeping across the nation filling living rooms and venues with music. I highly recommend checking them out, I did last night in Oakland and the show was a lot of fun.

When I first walked into the room I thought someone had put on some obscure angst-60′s-droning-psychedelic album that I had yet heard, then I saw Corinne grabbing some young boys hair as she wailed into the microphone. Immediately I leaned up against a wall and sunk into their heavy sound – lots of distorted guitars, heavy drum beats, feedback, wails, and some distinguishable lyrics. They reminded me of the Black Mountain show I saw a few months ago, however Mythical Beast took me way further into the land of angst psychedelia if compared to Black Mountain, and honestly, the only reason I went to see Black Mountain was to try to drop down the rabbit hole for an evening, so thank you Mythical Beast for taking me there. Their first album “Scales” will be released on the Drag City subsidiary Language of Stone on October 21st, until then watch their myspace.
